KENYA SAMBURU HOTELS, CAMPS & LODGES
Samburu Lodge
Samburu Lodge is set in a rugged landscape with a backdrop of jagged mountains and its own indigenous animals, unique to the region. The landscape, wildlife and vegetation is very different to the lush, rolling grasslands of other National Parks. Samburu is the place for leopard, lion, elephant and crocodile. It is the place of the semi nomadic Samburu people. A place of thorn brush, open plains and vast horizons. It gives you a taste of the romance of the desert. Samburu Lodge is beautifully situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro river with a wide choice of accommodation spread up and down the river in cottages, bandas and single or twin rooms, all facing the river.
Samburu Serena Lodge
The Samburu Serena Safari Lodge is located in the centre of the Samburu Game Reserve, a semi-arid, open
savannah plain broken by small rugged hills in Kenya’s Northern Province. Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River with its crocodiles and leopards, the lodge is rustic yet sophisticated and captures the robust rhythms of riverside life. Inspired by the architecture of the indigenous Samburu tribe, this beautiful lodge blends the verdant environment by making full use of use of native materials and artwork. The hotel boasts of 62 thatched cabins, including eight family rooms and a superb swimming pool surrounded by thatched umbrellas and native trees. Each cottage has a private verandah overlooking the river so that the crocodiles can be seen feeding. Game drives and bird-watching safaris are extra special at Samburu as the nature reserve is renowned for a range of rare game: Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, the long-necked gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. There are also over a hundred species of birds including the Somali ostrich. Other facilities include an open-0air dining room, The kiboko bar and the pool bar.
Samburu Intrepids

The camp’s location deep inside the reserve guarantees close encounters with the region’s shier wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard, and Samburu’s famous ‘unique five’ - the rare reticulated giraffe, long-necked gerenuk antelope, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, and majestic Beisa Oryx. This luxurious tented lodge offers 27 modern tents with a private view over the wildlife-rich riverbanks. Bedouin Camp
Bedouin Camp is located in Samburu on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the shade of giant river acacias. Accommodation consists of four luxury Bedouin tents with four-poster beds, sprung orthopedic mattresses, Persian carpets and flushing toilets. All tents are en-suite and overlook the Ewaso Nyiro River. Activities include game drives into Samburu Game Reserve, afternoon walks or, on request, an overnight safari to fly camp on the top of Ol Donyo Lolokwe Sabachi. The Camp is managed by Craig and Samantha Griffiths, the owners, and the staff are employed from the local Samburu community.
Elephant Watch Camp
The Elephant Watch Safari Camp is perched on a sloping riverbank beneath great Kigelia and Acacia trees, home to some of the largest elephant bulls in Samburu. Greater Kudu and impalas stop by to eat seedpods, as do a multitude of birds and monkeys, and sometimes a leopard comes to hunt in the darkness. Dinner is under a starry sky, and sylph-like genet cats slink past in the shadows. The Camp, very personal and comfortable, has only four custom made tents with en-suite bathroom, accommodating a maximum of eight guests. The desert-style tents are wide and breezy, and large colorful cushions with Samburu beadwork and local rugs adorn the furniture made from fallen trees. Every detail of this nomadic camp is designed to blend with the spirit of Samburu. It is the only camp of its kind.
Larsens Camp
Larsens Tented Camp was opened in 1987, and is set in lush lawns on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro, a river in Samburu National Reserve, 320 km north of Nairobi, Kenya, on the border of the old Northern Frontier Province. Tranquility and nature embrace you the minute you enter Larsens with the river being the perfect stage for an endless pageant of wildlife - elephants rolling and trumpeting in the shallows, timid impala nervously drinking, baboons and vervet monkeys swinging through the canopy of trees. The only man made noise is that of the young Samburu flutist as he slowly makes his way along the river front. He unobtrusively doubles as a palm nut thrower when the monkeys become too bold.
17 spacious airy tents all raised on wooden platforms, each being named after a bird, style with casual colonial elegance, hot showers and a surprising degree of comfort with toweling gowns in the tent and comfort able leather safari chairs.
